Audiobook publisher & distributor Spokenworld Audio (part of Ladbroke Audio Ltd) is proud to announce that its first ‘own-brand’ audiobook anthology “Thirteen” has been nominated as a finalist in the 2014 Audie Awards.
The 19th Annual Audie Awards will be held on the 29th May 2014 in New York, and honour spoken word entertainment. Organised and supported by the Audio Publishers Association, the Audies are widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the audiobook world.
THIRTEEN has been listed as a finalist in the Original Work category, going up against the likes of “Letter From A Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King Jr, “Pete Seeger: The Storm King” by Pete Seeger and “Enders Game Alive” by Orson Scott Card.
THIRTEEN was edited and co-written by Scott Harrison, and produced/directed by Neil Gardner. It is Spokenworld Audio’s first foray into ‘own-brand’ audio productions, commissioning original content and experimenting with the audio anthology genre. It took almost 2 years to put together and was released in Autumn 2013 to critical acclaim.
“To say we are gob-smacked is an understatement,” says Spokenworld Audio MD Neil Gardner, “The Audies are such a big thing, and to be named a finalist in our very first year, and with our very first original production is a real honour, and testament to the incredible talent of Scott and our 12 writers and 13 performers.”
The anthology features short tales of terror by the likes of Dan Abnett, Cavan Scott, George Mann, Kaaron Warren, Martin Day and Kim Newman, with the stories read by a multitude of star performers including Gemma Arterton, Arthur Darvill, Frances Barber, Lalla Ward, Barnaby Edwards and Samuel West.
“I started Spokenworld Audio in 2010 in order to get to a place where I could make the sort of audio productions that I wanted to hear, and for which I knew there was an audience,” says Neil Gardner. “THIRTEEN was a long time in the making but it is something we are all very proud of. Now, to get such a prestigious nomination, gives us even more enthusiasm to keep pushing towards a future that includes audio for all ages! Whether we win or not, this has proven to a fantastic start to 2014, a year not just of growth for us, but when we really start to show what we can do.”
