DVD Releases for Monday 3rd March

There are a lot of new horror DVD releases on Amazon this week and we don’t have time to review them all, so here’s a list from Susan Omand of some to look out for (and not necessarily in a good way)…

THE CLOTH
Danny Trejo and Eric Roberts star in this apocalyptic horror. The film centres around a secret organisation funded by the Catholic Church which is waged in a war against Satan and his demonic minions. Charged with leading this battle between good and evil are Father Connely (Trejo) and Father Tollman (Roberts). With only a little time before Satan takes over the world, it is up to ‘The Cloth’ to thwart his evil plans of domination and ensure the safety of mankind which is faced with annihilation. (Eric Roberts…therefore so bad it might be ok)

THE HOSPITAL
Old St. Leopold’s Hospital has many urban legends surrounding it but the residents of Bridgeport all agree on one thing: tortured souls roam its abandoned halls. The mystery proves too much for a pretty young student who decides to investigate for her senior class project. Unfortunately, she does not find ghosts. She, instead, finds Stanley… a serial murderer and psychopath. As the young girl becomes Stanley’s new pet, a team of young investigators descend on the hospital to hunt some ghosts. Stanley sees nothing but fun and games in his future but what Stanley doesn’t know is that the hospital truly is haunted and the restless spirits there are not happy with what he has been doing. (Looks like you’ll either love it or hate it)

THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT 2
The Wyrick family find themselves beset by malevolent ghosts in this tale of supernatural horror from director Tom Elkins. Andy (Chad Michael Murray) and his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer) are over the moon when they find what seems to be the ideal location to bring up their young daughter Heidi (Emily Alyn Lind) – an old house situated deep in the woods of rural Georgia that used to be a staging post for escaping slaves on the underground railway. But soon after the move, as Heidi begins to witness a number of disturbing supernatural events, the ghostly spirits of the house’s past return to unleash terror on the present owners. (It’s a sequel. It’s a 15)

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
A seemingly wholesome family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves but behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules the family with a rigorous fervour. When a torrential rainstorm moves in, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. Once the local authorities begin to uncover clues, they are brought closer to the secret that the Parkers have held close for so many years. (Apparently bleak and gothic with “meaty” undertones)

THE HUMAN RACE
If you’re a fan of Battle Royale or The Hunger Games you will be captivated by the Human Race. Veronica suddenly finds herself in a surreal and horrifying marathon race. The Rules are simple: If you are lapped, you die. If you step off the path, you die. 80 will start but only one may cross the finishing line …. alive. Who will win the Human Race?  (Who cares…)
