The BLOOD IN THE SNOW CANADIAN FILM FESTIVAL (“BITS”) concluded it’s a sixth year of thrills, chills, and bloody Canuck carnage. With its ten programs over four days, BITS 2017 had its highest attendance ever capped off with its closing awards show, The Bloodies hosted by actor Nick Smyth.

Closing night film Audrey Cummings’ Darken led the charge with four awards including Best Director and Best Cinematography but the Best Feature went to Matthew Currie Holmes’ Buckout Road. Best Actress going to Suzanne Clement’s stunning performance in The Child Remains and Best Actor going to Jeff Sinasac directing himself in Red Spring.

Two special awards were given to newcomer star of Blood Child and director of the short Talking Heads for the Rising Star Award and the Vanguard Award went to actor Ry Barrett given to his overall impact on underground genre cinema in Canada in recent years. BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE: Art of Obsession

RISING STAR: Alyx Melone (Blood Child / Talking Heads)

BEST DIRECTOR: Audrey Cummings, Darken

BEST SCREENPLAY: Matthew Currie Holmes, Shahin Chandrasoma Buckout Road

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Jame Griffith, Darken

BEST EDITING: Rob Grant, Fake Blood

BEST SPECIAL FX: Kill Order

BEST MUSIC SCORE: Jim McGrath, Darken

BEST POSTER: Darken
