CABANE À SANG UNVEILS THE FIRST NAMES OF ITS PARTY POOPER 2023 COMPETITION

Cabane à Sang unveils the first names of its Party Pooper 2023 competition.

The festival will kick off its biggest edition on May 24th in Hochelaga.

With only a few days to go before the start of its 6th edition, Cabane à Sang is proud to have sold out its highly anticipated Party Pooper Spectacular! Back for a second edition, the competition where participants must submit a short genre film of less than 5 minutes, is already a must at the festival, which will take place from May 24 to 27.

The competition is heating up

The Party Pooper Spectacular competition unveiled today the first names of its 2023 lineup, which promises to be particularly exciting: Rémi Fréchette (Montréal Dead End, programmer at the Fantasia International Film Festival), Jimmy G. Pettigrew (Montréal Dead End, former general manager at Vitesse lumière), Frank Appache (president and founder of Cabane à Sang), the Corneau brothers (organizers of Cabane à Sang Jonquière), Jean-Claude Leblanc (Cauchemar capitonné) and Gabriel Auclair-Doucet (Brigitte, programmer at Cabane à Sang) are part of the selection. Mélissa Gagné, Simon Léonardis and Alice Messier will also present their first ever productions.

“This year, the caliber of films being submitted is beyond my expectations”, claims Frank Appache. “The participants have really stepped it up this time, to the point where one of the directors managed to make me feel queasy with their concept. With the amount of films that I watch, I thought I had seen everything, but clearly not!”

Four evenings of off-beat screenings

The festivities will be launched on Wednesday, May 24th at 7 p.m. at the Madame Smith brewery (4061, rue Ontario E.), where the Sci-Fi Evening will be presented free of charge and broadcast simultaneously via the Cabane à Sang Facebook page.

On Thursday, May 25th at 7 p.m., the Keep it Weird screening will serve its strangest and most offbeat discoveries of the year at La Nouvelle administration (previously Bistro Le Ste-Cath 4264, rue Sainte-Catherine E.).

On Friday, May 26th, the festival will present the lastest batch of its Party Pooper Spectacular Trash Film Competition at the Cinémathèque Québécoise (335, boul. De Maisonneuve Est) at 8 p.m. This year’s theme: SEXY! Get ready to have your minds blown.

And finally, the Viandes Mixtes program will offer its traditional mix of dripping horror on May 27th at 7 p.m. at La Nouvelle administration in order to save the best for last.

Full lineup details and tickets are available on the Cabane à Sang website.

Earlier this year, Cabane à Sang flew to Belgium to present an entirely Quebecois evening at the Courts Mais Trash festival. Three other special events are already on the program for 2023: the «Punch d’action» at Jonquière and Fredericton as well as a “best of” special in Amqui.

Cabane à Sang is an annual Montreal-based short film festival that celebrates trash, horror and science fiction since 2017. Cabane à Sang aims to bring back the high-energy atmosphere of grindhouse cinema, where offbeat screenings, beers and laughter come together.
