REVIEW
Suicide Disease were on the verge of making it big but the band disappeared in the Spring of 2024 or so the title card tells us. The film opens with the band having a meeting. They’ve stalled as a band, Jay (Ivey) wants to make new songs, the rest of the band wants to do more live shows to make money to so they can make new songs. However, the band’s drummer, Juan (Bacigalupo) has another idea. This director has been DM-ing him and he is willing to shoot a music video for free. The band takes up the offer and travels to a run-down mansion to film with Mr Director (Lombardi).

The film is directed well by Capria; however, it is just in a straight up manner, point and shoot style. Capria has written a point A to point B film and that doesn’t really do anything new with a well-worn plot. The setting of the film – an abandoned building looks absolutely amazing and provides the opportunity to embed the setting into the film and really use it but unfortunately it isn’t really more than just a location.

The acting is good, Ivey does well with his character, giving him a bit more depth from what could’ve been a very one note performance and Lombardi seems to be having fun as Mr. Director. The rest of the cast does well and are all committed to giving their best, which helps the film immensely.
Director’s Cut is a decent film, but it doesn’t offer anything different to make it stand apart. There is nothing wrong with the way it is made, but because we know the result from early on, it just doesn’t really capture your attention.
Director’s Cut is in cinemas October 31.
