REVIEW
Anthology horror Body Count is an unashamedly low budget, independent production with everyone involved committing 100% to the film from start to finish. The anthology is female driven, in terms of acting, directing and the themes throughout all of the segments.
The segments (like in all anthology films) vary in what works, but it is a personal choice, and that’s what makes anthology films great. However, in Body Count they are all interesting. A wronged actress getting her power back and a revenge for a high school prank were two of my favourite segments.
Each story has its own style and some of the effects (whilst obviously on budget) are done well, with some very inventive ways to get around actually showing it, the implied violence works better than the violence you do see. As a bonus Queen Malvolia, Nangle’s wonderfully crazy creation is in all of the wrap around sections of the film, and it is always good to see the Queen make an appearance.

The acting is good across the entire film, but Nangle takes on a lot (apart from the directing and writing) and does great job with every role that she plays. Showing versatility and vulnerability when needed. The writing overall is decent, some segments are better than others, but they all have a streak of very dark comedy running through them. Some of the writing and acting feels very personal, and I could be reading into things too much but either way it provides the feeling of being real in these moments.
This film was definitely a labour of love for those involved. You can feel the genuine love of filmmaking, it is an earnest and genuine film, that is a bloody, fun watch.
